1st Austin Harriss Memorial Scholarship

This past May we recognized two students from the Bartow County School system. They were awarded a $500 scholarship each. They had to fill out an application, provide school transcripts, and letters of reference from their pastors. These students are Christians and were awarded the 1st scholarship honoring my son Austin Harriss who was killed two weeks before his high school graduation last year in 2012. It was a bittersweet time for my family and me. We will miss seeing Austin go to college and getting a degree, but through this scholarship we will continue to see the blessings that God has given us despite the tragedy we have endured. Please consider giving to the Austin Harriss Memorial Scholarship Fund. No amount it too small. We are currently collecting change from church members. We hope to collect $4,000 by May of 2014 so that we may award a $1,000 scholarship to a senior from each of the High Schools in our area (Adairsville, Cass, Catersville, and Woodland High schools). This means so much to me and my family. It serves as a remeberance and an way to honor my son's life. Austin believed strongly in Jesus Christ and his grace was what helped me live through this time in my life. Please consider sending any amount to the following address:

My locket

Origami Owl is the name of a company that sells living lockets. After Austin's death I received a gift from two dear friends. It was an Origami Owl necklace. They placed inside the letter A, a soccer ball, and a garnet birthstone (Austin was born in January). Later I received a lapel pin from Life Link the organ donation company. I had the pin shaved off the back and I placed this into the background of my locket. This locket will be forever special to me. I am now an Independent Designer for Origami Owl. You can order your own locket at www.vharriss.origamiowl.com

Saved by the blood of Christ

This picture is very special to me. It was taken when Austin went to Camp Glisson the very first time. He received Christ during this week long Methodist camp during the summer when he was around 9 years old. The look on his face tells it all. He had a strong belief in Jesus and often shared it with others.
